Screensavers and ambient screens that run in your browser
A browser screensaver is a page you put in fullscreen and leave alone. There is nothing to install, so it also works on a Chromebook or a borrowed laptop. These screens run without input and give a spare monitor, a waiting-room display or the back of a stream something to show. One limit: the page does not stop your computer from going to sleep, so set the display timeout yourself if the screen should stay on.

PRANKWhich screensaver should I use?
| Screen | What happens | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Matrix Rain | Columns of glyphs fall down a black screen. You choose the colour, the character set (katakana, binary, hex or mixed), the speed and the density. | The classic look on a spare monitor or behind a stream. |
| No Signal | Grey TV static with a NO SIGNAL box drifting across it, or SMPTE colour bars when you switch the input. | A screen that should look idle, and breaks between segments. |
| Tesla Coil | A coil throws branching lightning. Left alone it keeps arcing. Move the pointer and the main arc follows it. | Displays that people walk up to and touch. |
| Hacker Terminal | A terminal that types commands and prints their output by itself, in an endless loop. | A desk that should look busy while nobody sits at it. |
How to use a screensaver
- 1Open the screen you want and adjust it under Customize, for example the colour of the rain or of the lightning.
- 2Press Fullscreen. The toolbar disappears and the animation fills the display. Esc ends it.
- 3Set your computer’s own sleep or screen-off timer to the time the screen should stay on. Your settings are stored in the browser, so a bookmark brings the same setup back.
Screensavers FAQ
Can I install one as my system screensaver?
No. These are web pages, not screensaver files for Windows or macOS, so they do not start by themselves when the computer is idle. You open the page and press Fullscreen.
Will the screen stay on?
Only as long as your device allows. The page does not block sleep mode or the screen-off timer. For a display that should run for hours, raise the timeout in the system settings or switch it off.
Do the screensavers play sound?
Not unless you switch it on. Every screen opens muted, and the Sound button in the toolbar turns the effects on.
