Matrix Rain is the iconic falling-glyph “digital rain”: columns of characters cascading down a black screen that you can recolour, speed up, switch between katakana, binary or hex, and even hide a secret message inside. It is a hypnotic, loopable effect built for fullscreen.
What makes Matrix Rain different
Matrix Rain is the iconic falling-glyph “digital rain” — cascading characters you can recolour, speed up, switch between katakana, binary or hex, and even hide a secret message inside. Unlike the terminal scenes, there is nothing to read or drive: it is a hypnotic, loopable, full-screen effect built to sit on a display.
What you can do with it
- A living wallpaper or fullscreen background for a spare monitor
- A recognisable “hacker” backdrop for videos, intros and streams
- A hidden-message reveal for surprises and bits
How to use Matrix Rain
- Just open it — the rain animates on its own, full-screen.
- In Customize, pick the colour theme (green, cyan, amber, red, violet or white), the glyph set (katakana, binary, hex or mixed), and the fall speed and density.
- Type a hidden message in Customize, then press REVEAL (key 3) to surface it inside the falling glyphs; keys 1–6 also trigger surge, invert, whiteout, freeze and glitch.
- Press Fullscreen (or add ?present=1) for a clean living-wallpaper backdrop.
Customize it
Choose the colour theme (green, cyan, amber, red, violet, white), the character set (katakana, binary, hex or mixed), the speed and density, and a hidden message the REVEAL action surfaces inside the rain.
Can I hide my own message in the rain?
Yes. Open Customize, type a message, and trigger the reveal action to surface it inside the falling glyphs.
Which characters can it use?
Choose katakana (the classic look), binary, hexadecimal or a mix, and recolour the rain to any accent you like.
