A fake hacker screen, done properly.
GHOSTSCREEN is a free, browser-based studio for making cinematic “hacker” screens — a live hacker typer, matrix rain, fake update and crash screens, tactical maps and more. It exists for one reason: to look convincing on camera and in front of friends, while being completely harmless.
Everything here is fiction
This is the important part. GHOSTSCREEN cannot hack anything, and it never tries to. There is no shell, no exploit, no malware, no network access and no data collection. Every command, node, alert, IP address and “classified” document is invented for dramatic effect. All network addresses use the RFC 5737 ranges reserved for documentation. Typing into a scene only triggers pre-scripted visual effects — nothing is sent anywhere.
What people use it for
- Harmless pranks — leave a fake update screen or a blue-screen crash on a friend’s monitor.
- Videos & films — believable prop screens for YouTube, TikTok and short films, including green-screen compositing.
- Streaming — drop a scene into OBS as a browser source and go fullscreen for intros, “be right back” screens and bits.
- Demos & teaching — a fun, obviously-fake backdrop when talking about security, without pretending to do anything real.
Who makes this
GHOSTSCREEN is an independent project built as a design-driven web app: a small library of hand-crafted scenes sharing one creator toolkit (customise, cinematic actions, presentation mode, shareable links). It is free, runs entirely in your browser, and needs no account. New scenes get added over time — the guides show how to get the most out of the ones that exist.
Please use it responsibly
GHOSTSCREEN is for jokes, art and entertainment. Do not use it to genuinely deceive, defraud, intimidate or impersonate — and remember it cannot actually access, damage or break into anything, so any claim that it did is itself fiction. Keep pranks kind and consensual.
